| JEFF MARTIN Exile and the Kingdom (KOCH) By: Caitlin Hotchkiss -- ChartAttack Ok, let's be honest here: Nobody really expected the former front man of The Tea Party's solo album to sound like anything other than, well, The Tea Party. And in this respect, the masses are correct. However, it's the 180 that Martin's done with his influences that will surprise many. Hearkening back to the days of Splendor Solis and The Edges Of Twilight, Martin's debut is bluesy, Eastern-sounding and altogether more uplifting than much of this previous band's offerings. “Black Snake Blues” and “Good Time Song” prove that the man has got some original tricks up his sleeve yet, and a song like “Angel Dust” is a reminder of what a personal catharsis this album must be. People who already hate The Tea Party's musical stylings need not apply, but those who've loved Martin's past work will be ecstatic with this. ~ 3 Stars, By: Caitlin Hotchkiss . |
